The LEO 440 scanning electron microscope platform is equipped with four light element energy dispersive X-ray detectors and an X-ray microanalyser. Raw data is processed using proprietary software designed by CSIRO and presented in a variety of tabular and graphical formats. QEMSCAN provides quantitative data regarding gold grain size distribution, gold mineral composition, and mineral association and locking characteristics. It is used in gold process mineralogy to develop and optimise processing strategies and for surface morphological study of gold and gold-bearing minerals.
