The Cary 500 Scan UV-Vis Spectrometer (uv = 200-400 nm, visible = 400-800 nm) probes the electronic transitions of molecules as they absorb light in the UV and visible regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. We use the instrument to examine the absorbance spectrum of photo-initiators, molecules which start a reaction upon the absorption of light.
