The RC-412 employs a state-of-the-art furnace control system which allows the temperature of the furnace to be stepped and subjected to ramping. Various sources of carbon may also be differentiated by the temperature at which they oxidize, decompose or turn into volatiles. Water and carbon dioxide released from the minerals are detected by means of IR absorption cells.
